What Is GPA?
GPA (Grade Point Average) is a numerical representation of your academic performance. Most US institutions use the 4.0 scale, where A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, and F = 0.
Semester GPA vs Cumulative GPA
Semester GPA is calculated from courses taken in one semester only. Cumulative GPA includes all courses across all semesters and is what appears on your official transcript and matters for scholarships, graduate school, and employment.
GPA Formula
GPA = Sum of (Credit Hours ร Grade Points) รท Total Credit Hours
Example: English (3 cr, A=4.0) + Math (4 cr, B=3.0) + Chemistry (4 cr, B+=3.3)
= (3ร4.0) + (4ร3.0) + (4ร3.3) = 12 + 12 + 13.2 = 37.2 รท 11 = 3.38 GPA
