How to Calculate a Weighted Course Grade
A weighted grade calculator helps you find your current grade when different assignment types count for different percentages of your final grade.
The Weighted Grade Formula
Course Grade = Σ (Category Average × Category Weight)
Example: Homework 85% (30%) + Quizzes 78% (20%) + Exams 90% (50%) = 25.5 + 15.6 + 45 = 86.1%
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add categories — one per assignment type in your syllabus.
- Set weights — must total 100%.
- Add assignments — enter each score.
- Calculate — click "Calculate My Grade".

Multiply each category average by its weight decimal, then add. Example: 85% × 0.40 + 90% × 0.60 = 34 + 54 = 88%.
The calculator warns you and normalizes. For best accuracy, make sure weights total exactly 100% to match your syllabus.
